Major/Essential Duties of Job:

Provide pedagogical and technical support to faculty to develop, design, and create online instructional content applying instructional design oversight and active learning principles in the development process. Work with the faculty to design, and create engaging, interactive, and instructionally sound online learning activities. Collaborate with a team of technology specialists, subject matter experts and the Assistant Director of Instructional Technology Services to encourage, promote, assist and develop active learning and critical thinking strategies for increase student learning. Develop and conduct training experiences for faculty including but not limited to: self-help documents, online tutorials, and other multimedia materials to assist instructors with the use of course management tools, instructional design concepts and other technologies. Testing new instructional technologies and evaluating educational applications. Other duties as required.

Major/Essential Duties of Job:

IT Consulting: Provide consultative service and support to customers using complex software applications. Research problems and recommends solutions for customers. Maintain expertise on complex software applications. Participate in customer problem tracking. Provide training to customers on the advanced use of widely used applications and/or various specialized software applications. Advise and educate customers on computing security policies and procedures. Provide training and technical oversight for the development and maintenance of printed and web-based software application information for customer use. Survey new technologies and prepare executive summaries. Core Duties: Assist other employees in resolving certain technical problems. Confer with other personnel in resolving problems involving procedural and technical matters. Provide resource estimates and progress reports. Serve on committees to develop technical standards and direction. Meet with University customers and technical staff to determine information needs and requirements. Ensure that all work is accurate and in compliance with departmental or project quality standards. Provide on-call support on nights and weekends as needed. Provide input for the planning and budget process. Other duties as required.

Technology in Science and Math Education PDF Print E-mail

EDCI 5377/D.01 Technology in Science and Math Education (CRN 40392), an on-line course, will be offered on the Spring 2012. The emphasis of the course is definitely on the use of technology in math and science teaching and not on science and math content per se. Students don't have to have any high level math or science skills.

The list of course topics:

Week 1 – Google Earth

Week 2 – NSTA Learning Center (which has a ton of free science teaching resources)

Weeks 3-4 – Data Mining in the Math/Science Classroom

Weeks 3-7 – Using Technology for Global Science Education (Tech students will work with Uzbekistani students on a science project using email and Skype)

Weeks 5-6 – Using Probes in the Math/Science Classroom

Weeks 8-9 – Interviewing Math and Science Teachers Who Have Won Awards for Their Use of Technology (about their use of technology and the future of technology in the classroom)

Weeks 10-11 – Drafting an Article about Using Technology in the Science or Math Classroom

Weeks 12-13 – Global Science and Math Education (the MOON Project plus a continuation of the Uzbekistani project)

Weeks 14-15 – Polishing the Article about Using Technology in the Science or Math Classroom (for publication in a state science or math journal)
